Abstract

The intent of this paper is to delineate the determinants of the distribution of income in Rawalpindi city. The basic hypothesis to be tested is that for each individual, personal earnings are a function of his socio-economic char¬acteristics such as age, sex, education, and the like. If the hypothesis bears out, the disparity of incomes within the city would then prove to be a conse¬quence of the variation in these individual characteristics. It would then be of interest to quantify the effect of each of these determinants on the eventual distribution of income.
